Even during to rare times when Utah isn’t getting hammered by storms and fresh snow (i.e. the 2 weeks of high pressure in early January), there is still plenty of fun things to do and silly things to jump off of…
Right across the street from the south entrance of the Convention Center is a small passage named “Pierpont Walkway”.
It’s an often overlooked little spot but one that I’ve passed through many times, like I did the other day after leaving the Outdoor Retailer Show.
Named after Thomas Pierpont, a late 1800’s businessman who lived in Salt Lake and Provo, there are now a lot of Pierpont named things in Salt Lake. There’s Pierpont Place, Pierpont Avenue, Cafe Pierpont but this little walkway is of the lesser known Pierpont variety.
Lunch Crew is a new tradition on your favorite Salt Lake blog. Every now and then, a few working professionals in the downtown Salt Lake City area, will you a short video of the lunch experience at a selected downtown restaurant.
The first video we bring you is a highlight of an authentic-Italian pizzeria: SETTEBELLO. Last summer, Kendall gave you a detailed blog report on Settebello. Today, we give you a live experience inside the restaurant with candid reviews of the food and a video look at the menu.
We hope you enjoy the video and stay tuned for more from the SLC Lunch Crew!
P.S. If you have a restaurant you would like to recommend to the lunch crew, please write a comment on this post, or send an email to visitsaltlake@gmail.com.
Yesterday, through the night, and still now, the snow angels have finally given generously for the first time in weeks. Sundance records 25 inches of fresh snow. Other resorts followed closely behind:
To the left is a picture I just took outside my window this morning. For all of those who have the liberty to take the day off and hit the slopes, happy day to you. For all of those who are stuck in the regular Monday mundane, sad day to you.
Either way, I hope the new snow and the removal of the inversion makes you happy to be in Utah.
President Barack Obama recently announced that “Obama’s Angels National Council,” a nonpartisan service group designed to organize national service projects, will make its headquarters in Salt Lake due in large part to the area’s reputation for its boundless and enthusiastic volunteer efforts.
“Salt Lake has one of the largest numbers of volunteers in the whole country,” said Gigi Kelson, director of the new organization. “We have a nice, well-organized base here to launch projects nationwide. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Democrat or Republican, we’re working to unite the country, and Utah has a good base to get started.” continue reading…
I arrived at the Outdoor Retailer show for the final day and it was quiet.
I think it was a combination of Saturday night’s festivities and the plethora of snow that had fallen in the mountains, luring skiers and snowboarders from the show to the Cottonwood Canyon resorts just minutes away from the Salt Palace Convention Center.
In fact around noontime I talked to the President of Mountain Hardwear who had just returned from a morning of skiing 20″+ at Snowbird. He commented on just how easy it was to get to the slopes from downtown Salt Lake. continue reading…
I was walking around the Outdoor Retailer Winter Show today, talking with people, asking how business has been going and surprisingly, there are a lot of people saying that the show has been strong!
Some, like local backcountry ski manufacturer Black Diamond told me that they were having a good show despite most of the ordering being done prior to the show.
Others like the folks from Primaloft said that they were having a tremendous show thus far with many deals being done.
Although the aisles were slower than the larger Summer Outdoor Retailer Show they looked busy today. By mid afternoon I was ready for a pick-me-up. Then I spotted it: continue reading…
The Outdoor Retailer Show, Winter Edition, is under way. There are thousands of people attending this year and more cool outdoor gear than there is time to take in.
I’ve seen people from all over the world and talked to many of them about visiting Salt Lake. While it’s true that we’re in an inversion that has gotten the attention of the attendees, the rain/snow that we’re getting now is helping so the skiers are certainly excited.
And there are a lot of skiers here. At least a dozen people I spoke with today took advantage of the proximity to the resorts and enjoyed a couple days of skiing on the front end of the show. Others are opting or rather hedging their bets for some powder as the show finishes on Sunday. continue reading…
The Outdoor Retailer show is once again gathering in Salt Lake this week for it’s semi-annual event. With over 800 exhibitors and nearly 17,000 attendees from around the world, this is Salt Lake City’s time to shine for the premier winter outdoor recreation trade event in North America.
The Salt Palace Convention Center is host to more than 330,000 sold square-feet of exhibits, product launches, insightful seminars, meetings and celebrations from Thursday – Sunday, January 22-25, 2009. continue reading…
