Little America’s Green Effort

Little America hotel in Downtown Salt Lake CityBack in 1934 when the original Little America opened it’s doors thinking “green” was likely more closely associated with increasing the bottom line than it was with environmental concerns.

Anymore hotels in Salt Lake need to and are taking steps to become more green. It’s my opinion that along with being responsible partners with the environment comes an increase to the bottom line.

Little America’s green initiatives is a great start for a local hotel headed in the right direction and a good example for other Salt Lake hotels to follow. continue reading…

Downtown Salt Lake Farmers Market

Growing up in Portland, Oregon the Saturday Market held under the Burnside Bridge and surrounding park was a great way to get local food, crafts and other items from “real” folks scratching out a living.

Over the years that market has grown quite a bit and in the recent years the desire for locally grown produce, baked products and crafts has seen a surge in both demand and interest.

Salt Lake is no different when it comes to demand and interest.

Utah and in particular the greater Salt Lake area has a wide variety of fruits and vegetable growers. From corn to watermelon to apples and succulent raspberries the options are plentiful. But going into your local grocery store didn’t mean you’d get locally grown produce. continue reading…

Salt Lake Airport Getting More Friendly

It’s likely that you’ve gone to battle before or at the least you’ve tried the evasion tactic on occasion. If none of the above like me you’ve chanced it and risked the ticket or a scolding at the least.

I’m talking about the at the passenger pick up area of the Salt Lake Airport. We’ve all been there, 5mph, no parking, no leaving your vehicle, no, no, no.

On my most recent visit to the airport to pick up a friend my experience was so much more pleasant. This was in thanks to the new (it’s new to me) park and wait lot. continue reading…

Utah going to 4-10 to be Green

Being Green. It’s cache to some, over the top to others and to many it’s becoming a way of life. Washington Post writer Mike Stark reported about the decision, or rather the executive order that Governor Jon Huntsman issued stating that state government employees will now be working 10-hour days four days a week with Friday’s off.

Most state employees interviewed, the bulk of which are based in Salt Lake, were excited about the move stating that they’ll have more time for golf, hiking and camping in the adjacent Wasatch Mountains, visiting the Zoo, checking out local restaurants or generally spending more time with their families.

The article stated that the decision continue reading…

Check out Foothill and Salt Lake in the Summer

When so many people think of Salt Lake City and tourism they almost immediately think of skiing. While skiing and snowboarding make up a big part of the visitors who come to town each year more and more people are discovering the other attractions that exist.

Washington Post writer Andrea Sachs whose article entitled “Salt Lake City no longer just a jumping-off point for avid skiers” was republished in the Fort Worth based Star-Telegram which among other things stated this about Salt Lake’s Foothill District:

The Foothill Cultural District offers more opportunities to exercise the mind and legs in its 2-square-mile area, which includes Red Butte Garden, continue reading…
