Provo Canyon

I-15 exit 272. Follow 800 North (SR-52) east until you come to US-189 and Provo Canyon. This 28-mile byway winds through wide, wonderful Provo Canyon where dynamic forces of a past era are revealed in the canyon’s gnarled rock walls and jagged rock formations. Bridal Veil Falls can be seen from the road, and there is a parking area if you want to take a longer look. At the top of the canyon is Deer Creek Reservoir with sailing, boating, fishing, and windsurfing. The byway ends in Heber Valley—home of the Heber Valley Historic Railroad, and Soldier Hollow, a network of cross-country trails built for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and available to the public. A worthwhile side trip is the Alpine Scenic Loop (SR-92), a narrow, windy road famous for fall color drives. It leads past Sundance Resort, the Uinta National Forest, and Timpanogos Cave National Monument.
