Inferno Cantina Opens its Doors DowntownMichael Mack - April 21, 2011 at 12:45PM
It seems that the old Salt Lake City High School building is destined to remain a Mexican Restaurant, no matter what it's named, and that's a GOOD thing! Originally home to Cafe Pierpont, then the Sandbar, the latest incarnation at 122 W. Pierpont Avenue bills itself as Inferno Cantina, and from the looks of the multiple bar service areas, that's an accurate name. But don't overlook the extensive menu, which includes a surprising number of egg-oriented breakfast dishes. This is hangover food for sure, but really it's good for any state of mind. The chile relleno is outstanding, large and full of roasted flavor; the tamales fresh and just the right amount of spicy. Don't miss their soon to be famous Taco Tuesdays which feature reasonably priced freshly made street tacos. Muy bueno! Inferno Cantina is located at 122 W. Pierpont Avenue in Salt Lake City. 801-883-8838, www.infernoslc.com.
