"Our mission is to provide vital income to disadvantaged artisans and their families in impoverished areas of the world by marketing their handicrafts, telling their stories, and promoting economic justice through fair trade." - Ten Thousand Villages.

My friend, Vanessa, introduced me to Ten Thousand Villages and I'm so glad she did!!  Here's what she says about the store, products and experience:
Ten Thousand Villages is one of my favorite places in the world–I can stay in that place for hours! My mother-in-law introduced me to it a couple years ago and I just cannot stay away! This is the place I go for birthday presents, anniversary gifts, something special for myself and for every holiday. When you have a hard time thinking of the right thing to get someone who is hard to shop for, Ten Thousand Villages is the perfect place to come. During the holiday season when I have to buy something for my husband’s clients who seem to already have everything, Ten Thousand Villages is where I shop and I always find something perfect.
The night I went, I wanted to find something really special for my brother and sister-in-law who had just suffered a devastating loss.  Ten Thousand Villages was the perfect place to look.  The manager showed me a selection of items that would have been very sentimental and healing to give to my loved ones during their time of loss.  I ended up buying them a Kirsii love knot, handcrafted in Africa.  The Kirsii love knot comes from an old African tradition, symbolizing the connection of a man & wife and their love lasting as long as the stone from which the love knot was carved.  The knot really meant a lot to them.  It's something that they will always treasure.

So the next time you're looking for a unique gift/home decor item or if you're wanting an opportunity to teach your kids about fair trade and other cultures, head on over the Ten Thousand Villages.
