Take your skiing to the next levelMarch 23, 2009 at 9:02AM
Are you an expert skiier but want to take your abilities to the next level? Noting the "void in the area of expert ski instruction", Alta Ski School instructor Stephen Helfenbein developed Alta's Performance Ski Camp. The three- to four-day instructional experiences are aimed at the "skier who... is more of an athlete and dedicated to the sport-- not just someone treating the sport as a hobby". Skiers who are close but not quite expert shouldn't be frightened away from attending. A strong motivation to improve skiing technique and a good base level of fitness are the most important requirements for participation. The camp focuses on all mountain skiing and includes video analysis, physical assessments by licensed physical therapists, and discussions of proper equipment choice. The first three camps have already concluded, and the final camp is scheduled for April 10-12. Depending on the demand observed this year, Alta may expand the program for next year. The cost is $200 (not including lift tickets). For more information or to register, call the Alf Engen Ski School at 801-359-1078 or check out Alta's website.
