Visit Salt Lake Offers Five Fun-to-Play SCVNGR Treks

Published: 06/01/2011
SALT LAKE CITY (June 2011) - For locals and visitors who enjoy games and challenges while experiencing Utah's capital city, Visit Salt Lake (VSL) recently launched five of its own SCVNGR treks, easy-to-play games with simple challenges and the opportunity to earn rewards. Visit Salt Lake's treks are themed around some of the most popular activities Salt Lake has to offer, including: SLC Pubs and Breweries, Discover Downtown SLC, Pioneer History Tour, 2002 Olympic Legacy Tour and Salt Lake Connect Pass.

SCVNGR is a national location-based social media game and playing is simple, utilizing either an iPhone or Android smartphone. Players simply download the applicable free app (iPhone or Android), then go to the trek locations and do the challenges listed, from which points are earned, accumulated and used for rewards. SCVNGR is played casually, with quick, easy challenges players complete at their own pace. Challenges can include checking in at a specific location, snapping a photo or answering a trivia question; challenges vary throughout each trek and only take a few seconds to complete. VSL's five treks include a total of 54 challenges, all of which can be viewed at

To kick off its Salt Lake SCVNGR treks, VSL is holding a summer-long competition June 1-August 31 where players can compete to win instant rewards and one of three grand prizes by completing treks and earning points. Players completing one of VSL's five SCVNGR treks will earn an instant reward, which can redeemed for a free t-shirt or hat from the Simply Salt Lake gift shop located in the Salt Palace Convention Center ($20 value). Through August 31, the top three VSL SCVNGR players earning the most points by completing treks will each be awarded a grand prize of two (2) 365-day Visit Salt Lake Connect Passes ($138 value).
