Visit Salt Lake Named a Bicycle Friendly Business by the League of American Bicyclists

Published: 10/25/2012
Washington, D.C. – October 25, 2012 – As the nation looks to the next president for economic growth, hundreds of American companies have already discovered an innovative way to boost their bottom line: making their business bicycle-friendly. Today, the League of American Bicyclists recognized Visit Salt Lake with a Silver Award Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) award for its role in pedaling America toward greater prosperity.

With the announcement of 71 new BFBs today in 27 states, Visit Salt Lake joins a visionary group of close to 500 local businesses, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies across the United States that are transforming the American workplace.

“Businesses may be the engine of our economy, but more and more are realizing that the bicycle can be a powerful catalyst for increased profits, reduced health care costs, happier employees and more customers,” said Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists. “Companies large and small are voting for a more bicycling-friendly America and making significant contributions to our economic growth by promoting healthy, sustainable transportation.”

“Bikes most assuredly belong in Salt Lake, one of the most bicycle-friendly communities I can think of,” commented Scott Beck, president & CEO of Visit Salt Lake. “Our organization not only supports bikes as an alternative transportation source, but encourages cycling among our staff, both for transportation and for fitness. We have a fleet of cruiser bikes for staff use, which has proven to offer the most efficient means of getting around town quickly and safely.”

The Bicycle Friendly Community, Bicycle Friendly State, Bicycle Friendly Business and Bicycle Friendly University programs are generously supported by program partners Bikes Belong and Trek Bicycle’s One World, Two Wheels Campaign. The League of American Bicyclists promotes bicycling for fun, fitness and transportation, and works through advocacy and education for a bicycle-friendly America. The League represents the interests of America's 57 million bicyclists, including its 300,000 members and affiliates. For more information or to support the League, visit www.bikeleague.org.
