Published: 05/14/2009

  - A Visit Salt Lake Connect Pass Attraction -

Salt Lake City (May 2009)-Utah's Hogle Zoo, located at the base of Emigration Canyon directly across from ‘This is the Place Heritage Park,' occupies 42 acres of land area, contains 1,100 animals, 250 different species of animals and is one of more than a dozen attractions offered on the Visit Salt Lake Connect Pass.

Utah's Hogle Zoo is a non-profit organization and an accredited member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association. The zoo has many educational opportunities for children, and classes are held year round. More than 70,000 school children visit the Hogle Zoo, free of charge, each year during various school field trips.

Utah's Hogle Zoo is a family-friendly place. The animals, many of which are rare or endangered, leave people of all ages in awe and wonder. Visitors can either walk at their own pace throughout the zoo's property, or take a train ride tour. Though just 42 acres, a comfortable pair of shoes is recommended for walkers as there is plenty to see, do and experience.

Utah's Hogle Zoo was originally located in downtown Salt Lake's Liberty Park.  In 1911, when the zoo was first established, it consisted of monkeys, deer and an elephant. The zoo opened its current location in 1931 and has offered experiences and memories to thousands of people since.

The Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau is a private, non-profit corporation responsible for the promotion of Salt Lake as a convention and travel destination. Salt Lake is a unique fusion of metropolitan city and quaint mountain town; the towering Wasatch Mountains that embrace Salt Lake offer a dramatic backdrop to the vibrancy and activities of downtown.
