Red Butte Outdoor Concert Series: Santana

Long before the category known as “World Music” was named, Santana’s ever-evolving sound was always ahead of its time in its universal appeal. Founded in San Francisco during the late 1960’s, the band hit the Bay Area music scene with historic shows at the Fillmore and emerged onto the global stage with an epic set at Woodstock in 1969. More than 40 years and almost as many albums later, Santana has sold more than 100 million records and has won ten Grammy Awards, including a record-breaking nine for 1999’s Album of the Year, Supernatural. Santana’s 2012 album Shape Shifter debuted at #16 on theBillboard Top 200, and their forthcoming album, Corazón, Santana’s first Latin music album, features collaborations with various artists including Gloria Estefan, Ziggy Marley, Cindy Blackman Santana, Wayne Shorter, and Diego Torres.

Red Butte Outdoor Concert Series: Chris Isaak

After more than 25 years, and 13 albums into his career, Chris Isaak has finally created the album he’s always wanted to make. Beyond the Sun, Isaak’s first Vanguard Records release is truly a labor of love. As a child spinning his parents’ 45s in their Stockton, CA home, Isaak became and has since been obsessed with the glory days of Memphis’ Sun Studio and the visionary artists who got their starts there, including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Having presented his own distinctive style in music over several decades, he carries it forward still by revisiting his inspirations..

Some of the top professional climbers in the world will converge on Park City, Utah for the 2nd Annual Psicobloc Masters Series Competition presented by Clif Bar.

This year’s competition will feature a men’s and women’s division and will be in the style of a “duel” – competitors race head-to-head on identical routes, with the highest or first to the top advancing to the next round. The competition wall, designed by Walltopia, reaches over 50 feet above the pool and overhangs roughly 25 feet. The climbers use no ropes or harnesses, creating a thrilling plunge into the water below if they fall.

OK Go

Of all the superlatives ever thrown at OK Go, "world's most creative band" might fit best. Theirs is a project of the modern age, defined by vision as opposed to boundaries. It starts with a growing canon of infectious songs (the band's fourth album is forthcoming), and explodes out from there into a million creative endeavors: their videos are art projects that the whole world sees; their live shows are immersive and surprising; their free time is invested in apps and op-eds and a host of other experiments that all fall under fun, ambitious, or just really cool to try.
