Snowbird Hosts 28th Annual Steve Young Ski Classic

Published: 02/21/2014
Snowbird, Utah – The 28th Annual Steve Young Ski Classic will bring an impressive group of former NFL players, Olympians and Paralympians to Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort Saturday, March 1, 2014, to ski and raise money for Wasatch Adaptive Sports programs.
“It’s always exciting to see the Wasatch Adaptive Sports athletes inspire the professional athletes, and the professional athletes doing the same for the adaptive sports athletes,” said Peter Mandler, Director of Wasatch Adaptive Sports.
Former San Francisco 49er Steve Young headlines a group of NFL players and Olympians who will be skiing in a race against Wasatch Adaptive Sports participants in a dual giant slalom format on Snowbird’s Gad Valley Race Hill beginning at 10 a.m. There is no fee to watch this event, accessed from Snowbird’s Entry 1 or 2. Media are invited to observe the race and conduct interviews between 10 a.m. and noon.
Presented by the Forever Young Foundation and Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, the Steve Young Ski Classic includes an evening fund-raiser at the Cliff Lodge with a silent and live auction, awards, dinner and a participant program. The live auction will include heli-skiing package with Steve Young and four guests. Many professional athletes, including famous NFL players, Olympians and Paralympians will join Young for the event, among them Chad Lewis, Muffy Davis and Derek Parra. Advance reservations are required, and seats and tables are still available.
All funds raised during the Steve Young Ski Classic directly benefit Wasatch Adaptive Sports (WAS). WAS was established in 1977 and is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit foundation whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for children, adults and their families with special needs, through recreational, educational and therapeutic programs.
The funds raised enable Wasatch Adaptive Sports to offer year-round therapeutic recreational activities to people of all ages with special needs, as well as special programs for veterans. WAS does not turn anyone away. Full or partial scholarships are available. WAS programs build strength, stamina and self-esteem while enhancing the quality of life for participants. WAS operates year-round and provides many rewarding activities including skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and adaptive hockey in the winter; hiking, fishing, orienteering, bicycling and tram rides during the summer. Adaptive horseback riding and bowling are year-round activities offered by WAS.
