Kimpton's Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City Celebrates Vibrant Renewal

Published: 09/19/2012

SALT LAKE CITY, (September 19, 2012) Kimpton’s Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City has recently undergone a $5 million complete transformation. Proudly revealed today to crowds of hospitality and tourism industry partners, government officials and clients, Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City’s new sophisticated urban look for Salt Lake’s well-loved downtown “guilty pleasure” was heartily welcomed.

Designed by Susan Caruso of Intra-Spec Hospitality, the striking new interiors invite guests to indulge their senses while they discover vibrant new bedrooms, living rooms, meeting rooms and reception spaces. Caruso cleverly created dramatic changes with unique elements aimed at meeting the needs of both leisure and business travelers. Over 50 fabrics were used, with over 15,000 total yards, 15,000 square feet of carpeting and 17,000 linear yards of wall covererings were used.

“This renovation allows us to enhance our guests’ overall experience by creating a warm welcome in stylish surroundings, making for a memorable stay,” said Kelly Elggren, sales and marketing director for Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City. “We are so excited to greet them with a completely new hotel. This is a big milestone for us and for Salt Lake City, who greeted us with open arms 13 years ago."

Guests arrive in style in this landmark building through the signature porte-cochere and into the engaging living-room-style lobby. They are greeted by a grand high backed, curvaceous ebony settee, perfect for lounging or a fun photo op, that opens to the new registration area with a custom desk upholstered in luminous faux crocodile leather. The windows have been outfitted in bright plantation shutters that serve to open up the entire space and create more light.

Welcoming guests with inspired new décor and character, all design elements bring a sense of belonging to a larger communal family. The public spaces are designed to encourage guests to share their daily experiences, learn how to “live like a local” or just take a spin on one of the bikes available to borrow. The new backlit onyx and mahogany communal table and large mirrored television in the lobby-style living room provide a welcome space for guests to relax while enjoying the nightly managers’ evening reception, seated massages, and competitive games on the X-Box. Bold new lighting clusters of sophisticated oversized silvery globes resembling holiday ornaments glitter overhead.

Cozy seating groups feature white leather chairs with curvy arms, oversized ottomans and high back chairs for lounging. The seating is graced with luxurious fabrics in sienna, cream and soothing blue, accented by modern patterned pillows in citrus toned velvets. The fireplace conversation area sports an eclectic collection of gleaming white mirrors in contemporary shapes, with crisp benches below. All design elements are complimented by a striking onyx and navy carpet, with architecturally inspired geometric elements in red, gold and powder blue.

“The glamorous lighting and cheeky registration desk are the perfect introduction to the combination of classicism and modernity throughout the spaces,” said Caruso. “The lush lobby living room gives a warm welcome to guests with a mixture of creature comforts and stately amenities and the new spaces are all sophisticated, chic and cosmopolitan with a classic sensibility.”

The renovated bedrooms are all designed with personalized pampering and the wellness of guests in mind. Whether they are indulging in the in-room yoga or spa services, communing with their goldfish while relaxing in frisky animal print robes, or indulging in the healthy in-room dining menu created in partnership with nutrition expert, Joy Bauer, guests are all treated to an outstanding and memorable experience.

Caruso designed the guestrooms to look like a treasury of favorite items from around the world assembled by a seasoned world traveler. She has, for instance, paired a European steamer trunk nightstand with a Mediterranean-inspired lamp; draperies have a modified Greek key pattern, while a modernized English trellis design winds through the carpeting. Unexpected pops of color are everywhere. With a lipstick red in many of the fabrics and finishes, an irresistible combination of deep blue wall meets ivory mock crocodile fabric covering a plush upholstered headboard. Custom embroidery adorns a curved blue velvet lounge chair.

Upstairs, the meeting spaces, with over 3,100 feet of flexible space, have been completely remodeled to enhance the guest experience. Guests hosting business meetings, holiday celebrations and receptions will find a new sense of modernity to the spaces. The Hotel Monaco is known for creative, extraordinary meetings and every design element encourages originality, enjoyment and personalized care.

The ballroom and meeting rooms  are updated with tawny toned walls and partitions, and striking black and white sconces with crystal detailing. Remarkable new patterned carpeting stylishly compliments amber hued walls, chic consoles in mahogany and antique gold. Damask draperies in garnet and gold soften the expansive windows. Chic consoles with nail head accents and geometric mirrors bring a sense of modernity to the spaces, while plush new boardroom chairs encourage guests to settle in comfortably for signature business meetings.
