Delta to launch new international service from Salt Lake City

Published: 07/28/2014
SALT LAKE CITY (July 28, 2014) -- Delta will launch daily nonstop service from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam and Mexico City as part of a planned eight percent capacity increase from its Mountain West hub over the next five years.

The seasonal service to Amsterdam will launch May 1, 2015, and run through October on a Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. Customers flying the route will have connecting opportunities to more than 60 destinations throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa through Delta’s joint venture with Air France-KLM and Alitalia. Delta is the only airline operating trans-Atlantic service from Salt Lake City.

Delta’s new year-round service to Mexico City International Airport will begin Dec. 20, 2014, pending government approval. The route will be operated using an Airbus A319 aircraft.

Earlier this month, Delta reaffirmed its commitment to Salt Lake City as part of a groundbreaking event for the Salt Lake City International Airport’s $1.8 billion terminal redevelopment program. The event marked the start of major construction on the new terminal, which will replace aging facilities, accommodate growth, address seismic risk and improve operations and customer service at the airport. At the event, Delta also shared that it has renewed a long-term agreement with the airport and began operating under the terms of the new 10-year lease in July.

Delta is the largest airline in Salt Lake City with more than 260 peak-day departures to nearly 90 destinations, including seven international destinations, from its Mountain West hub. The airline provides significant connecting opportunities for the state of Utah, including multiple daily flights to key U.S. business markets. Delta also partners closely with many organizations in Salt Lake City and serves as the official airline of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Champions Program, the Utah Jazz and the U.S. Ski, Snowboarding and Freeskiing teams. The new Delta Performance Hall in the George and Delores Eccles Center is scheduled to open in July 2016.
