Announcing Eat Drink SLC - A New Food & Libations Festival Takes Flight at Tracy Aviary

Published: 05/21/2015
SALT LAKE CITY (May 21, 2015) — On July 9th, Tracy Aviary will be the lush, verdant setting for Eat Drink SLC, a new food & libations event that celebrates Salt Lake City’s coming of age as a culinary hotspot. Not just a food festival that happens to feature a few wineries, not just a wine festival with some food to nibble on — Eat Drink SLC is a true communion between food and drink, pairing a diverse group of independently owned local restaurants with complementary wineries, distilleries and breweries.

Eat Drink SLC invites food and libations lovers aged 21 and over to nibble and nosh, sip and swirl the evening away (from 6-9pm) while enjoying live music on the Aviary’s cool, green grounds. Festival-goers will sample seasonal fare from many of our leading restaurants and purveyors; sip from a selection of 80 wines from an international assortment of family-owned wineries; taste craft cocktails from small-batch distilleries, including several which are locally owned & operated; and enjoy local beers from award-winning Utah craft brewers. With tickets priced at $75 (all-inclusive), this summer evening social is an approachable, affable and appetizing way to support three local nonprofits that enhance our community and our lives: Tracy Aviary, Comunidades Unidas and SB Dance.

"Salt Lake is culturally thriving like never before, and we’re thrilled to host Eat Drink SLC,” states Tracy Aviary Executive Director Tim Brown. “There is an increasing number of community-minded people who are interested in culinary experiences and are eager to explore new locally crafted products, including beer, wine and spirits, all in the name of a good cause – or in this case, three good causes. Eat Drink SLC provides all of these experiences in a beautiful setting, with our blooming flowers and our birds showing their most colorful plumage. No doubt, Eat Drink SLC will be the event to attend on July 9th."

Eat Drink SLC was born from the desire to build recognition of Salt Lake’s status as a vibrant food and drink scene; foster appreciation of the unique union between food, wine, beer and spirits; and raise the visibility of local businesses in Utah's food and drink industry.   Eat Drink SLC’s format promotes the marriage of food and libations in a way unduplicated by other Utah events, giving equal weight to food and drink by thoughtfully pairing restaurants with complementary wineries, distilleries and breweries.

About Eat Drink SLC
EatDrink SLC is hosted under a nonprofit partnership umbrella consisting of Tracy Aviary and SB Dance.  These two organizations represent, respectively, a place and an arts-maker that contribute to the unique character of our community.  A third nonprofit – Comunidades Unidas – represents an organization that sustains people who are essential members of our community.   EatDrinkSLC recognizes that the food and beverage industry in Utah is large and encompasses many individuals including customers, business owners, managers, servers, culinary professionals, purveyors and agricultural workers.  EatDrinkSLC honors this entire food chain.  Eat Drink SLC is entirely supported by an all-volunteer committee and the net proceeds from EatDrink SLC ticket sales go directly to the three above-mentioned participating nonprofits.

About Comunidades Unidas
The mission of Comunidades Unidas is to empower the Latino community to recognize and achieve their own potential, and to be a positive force for change in the larger community. Now in its 15th year, CU is at the forefront of the movement to provide crucial health information and improve access to quality health care services for disconnected and uninformed minority communities throughout the state. They also desire to provide meaningful opportunities for community members to engage with their neighborhoods, schools, business and local governments. Their community leaders are trained to respond to new issues in their community and advocate for those in need of assistance or services. Throughout their time as an organization, CU has continued to be a major force for change in the Salt Lake Valley and throughout the state of Utah.

About SB Dance
SB Dance engages the community with original work that combines movement, drama, and object. Our mission includes encouraging people to think for themselves and provoking curiosity about art and the artistic process. SB Dance (aka Sweet Beast Dance Circus) is an award-winning arts group known for surprising range and innovation. The company is based in Salt Lake City, Utah, which provokes comments along the lines of "What are you doing here?" Luckily, there are lots of people who don't fit the Utah mold and they include our performers, a loyal following of hard core fans, a generous and active Board, and many individuals, foundations, businesses, and public agencies. Together, we thrive in this  unlikely home.  A 501(c)(3) nonprofit since 1998, SB Dance is a resident organization of the Salt Lake County Rose Wagner Center and has been rewarded with a NEA Grant for New Choreography and the Salt Lake City Mayor's Award.

About Tracy Aviary
Tracy Aviary inspires curiosity and caring for birds and nature through education and conservation. Tracy Aviary is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
